Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu-

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the most effective, reality-based fighting systems in the world. The basic premise of BJJ is that 90% of fights end up on the ground. As such, BJJ is focused primarily on effective ground fighting. The goal is to put an opponent into situations on the ground where joint locks and/or chokes can be applied to force him/her to submit.

Background

The Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy CT is officially endorsed by the legendary Renzo Gracie. The Gracie Family invented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and we are proud to uphold the values of honor, integrity, and courage .Our Head Instructor Mark Cerrone is among a select group of Renzo Gracie's first American students.He has been Renzo's loyal student for over 15 years.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai is recognized globally as the most effective striking art today. Thailand's national sport, Muay Thai, is based on simplicity and effectiveness. Honed over 2000 years, it is a graceful blend of punches, elbows, knees, and kicks. The core of Muay Thai is its effectiveness in real situations, be it in the ring or on the street. It relies on simple moves and efficient movement to generate maximum power.

The  Muay Thai Program is designed for the person whose primary focus is a combination of fitness and self-defense.

MMA (mixed martial arts)


Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is the fastest growing sport in the world. MMA is a combination of the best fighting systems. In 1993, the Ultimate Fighting Championship forever changed martial arts by creating a tournament to pit the world's best martial artists against each other. The tournament was designed to answer the age-old question, “Which martial art is the most effective in a real life, no-rules situation?” Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that art.After 15 years of MMA events around the globe by the UFC and other organizations, MMA mania has now taken over the sports world.It is now the fastest growing sport in the world!  It is now widely accepted that a combination of Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, and Wrestling is a strong foundation for fighting in a no-holds-barred situation. A complete fighter is someone who can fight in the 4 primary ranges of combat: kicking, punching, clinching/kneeing/takedowns, and ground fighting.

The Young Lions Childrens Program


History has shown that martial arts can be an excellent teacher for children to learn life skills such as discipline, hard work, integrity, confidence, teamwork, and more. Ultimately, the martial arts are about continuous self-improvement physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

The philosophy of our Young Lions Children’s Program is to help build life skills for your child through the martial arts by instilling excellence of the mind and body, confidence, a sense of achievement, self-discipline, and self-defense skills.

The Young Lions Children’s Program is designed to help a child in all areas of his/her life by instilling confidence, fostering discipline, encouraging achievement, and developing self-defense skills. It is designed for both boys and girls from ages 5 to 15.

Wrestling

 

Improve for takedowns and defense with this ancient martial art that uses grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws andtakedowns, and other grappling holds.  Wrestling techniques have been incorporated into Jiu Jitsu and MMA or Mixed Martial Arts

Outside of getting in great shape ,wrestling classes will improve your takedowns and takedown defense in Jiu Jitsu classes, training and Tournaments. It will also give you a good set of tools to use in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)


 

Aerobic Cardio Kickboxing

The techniques used during the one-hour classes, using conventional heavy bags and training pads, are based on authentic kickboxing techniques which provide both resistance training and cardio vascular benefits to its participants.Aerobic kickboxing classes begin with light stretches and a cardio warm up. Typical routines include a series of repetitive punches, hands strikes, kicks and other self-defense moves.

Geared mostly for woman the Aerobic Cardio kickboxing  class will give you the workout you are looking for while giving you some basic tools to use in a self defense situation.
